Behind British Lines

Story:

A slave woman is running through a North American forest. She is pregnant. In the distance she can hear the sound of dogs barking. They are coming for her. But she is determined to make it to Canada, for she has received word that if her baby is born on British terrritory, he will be born a free man. In this spirit she names her baby "British Freedom".

We don't know whether our protagonist gets to safety or not. And even if she does, will the British honour their promise?

We do know that babies were born behind British lines. Draped around the children's necks were placed signs saying "Born free behind British lines".

It's up to you to decide whether British Freedom was worth running for or not.

Lyrics

Verse:

By the time I sleep tonight I will have walked

a thousand miles (X2)

With my baby in my belly

My bag on my back

Can't stop now though I'm ready to crack (x2)

I'll put my foot to the floor and I'll walk a thousand more  (X2)

Running so long I'm feeling sick

Can't stop now  cause I'm feeling the kick (x2)

Chorus:

I hope that I can get behind British lines (x2)

Bridge:

For the sake of my son

This is why I have to run (x2)

Though I was not born free

I swear that he wil be (x2)

Running so long I'm feeling sick

Can't stop now  cause I'm feeling the kick (x2)

Chorus:

I hope that I can get behind British lines (x2)
